In early April, Tree Marshalls Ltd arborists undertook the task of tending to this majestic oak, mindful of its significance evidenced by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO). However, despite its protected status, the tree had fallen victim to the insidious threat of Ganoderma fungal brackets. This silent invader posed a danger, undermining the oak’s health and structural integrity.
Acknowledging the urgency of the situation, measures were swiftly implemented to safeguard the oak’s well-being. Firstly, the removal of four low-hanging branches was necessary to alleviate pressure on the trunk and maintain the tree’s distinctive silhouette. Additionally, a branch within the crown, rubbing against an affected stem, was pruned, preventing the oak from further harm.
Further interventions were undertaken to restore balance to the oak. A lateral reduction of 1.5 meters on the north-western side of the crown ensured uniformity and stability in the canopy, mitigating the risk of imbalance and potential hazards. The team then went on with the removal of major deadwood, a common practice for safety reasons.
This concerted effort represents the importance of proactive tree care and management in preserving the nature around us.
