Project Overview

Location

Holmbury, Dorking, Surrey

Client Type

Residential Client

Project Type

Emergency Tree Removal

Objective

Safely remove a wind-blown tree that had become unstable following adverse weather conditions, ensuring the surrounding area was made safe as quickly as possible.

Following strong winds, our team was contacted to attend an emergency call out in Holmbury, Dorking, where a large tree had been blown over and posed a potential risk to nearby property and members of the public. Due to the tree’s unstable position, specialist equipment and careful planning were required to complete the work safely and efficiently.

Our priority was to secure the area, assess the condition of the tree, and carry out a controlled dismantling process to eliminate any immediate hazards.

Project Scope

The project involved the emergency removal of a wind-blown tree that had become unsafe following severe weather.

Key work carried out during the project included:

Emergency site assessment to identify risks and determine the safest removal method.

Use of a specialist cherry picker to provide safe access to the damaged tree and allow our arborists to work at height without compromising safety.

Controlled dismantling and removal of the affected sections of the tree to prevent further movement or damage.

Site clearance and tidying following completion of the works.

To ensure environmental benefits were retained where possible, the resulting timber was left neatly stacked on site to create a natural habitat for wildlife and insects.

Challenges

Emergency tree work often presents unique challenges, particularly when dealing with storm-damaged trees.

Key challenges on this project included:

Unstable tree structure: The tree had been weakened and displaced by strong winds, creating unpredictable movement and additional safety risks.

Restricted working conditions: The damaged tree required careful access planning to ensure safe removal without causing further disturbance to the surrounding area.

Safe access at height: Due to the condition and position of the tree, climbing was not the safest option. A cherry picker was therefore used to provide secure access for our team throughout the operation.

Through careful planning and the use of specialist equipment, our team was able to complete the work safely and efficiently.

Outcome

The emergency call out was completed successfully, restoring safety to the area and removing the risk posed by the wind-blown tree.

Key outcomes included:

Safe removal of the damaged tree using specialist access equipment.

Efficient emergency response minimising risk to the surrounding area.

Use of a cherry picker to ensure all work was carried out to the highest safety standards.

Creation of a wildlife habitat by leaving the logs stacked on site for insects, birds and other local wildlife.

This project demonstrates our ability to respond quickly to emergency tree situations, using professional equipment and experienced arborists to deliver safe, practical, and environmentally responsible solutions.
